With all of our connections on social media, texting and emails we have lost the art of genuine friendships and relationships. You know the ones where you stop your busy day and grab coffee or lunch with a friend, for no other reason than you just want to spend time together. Unfortunately we are seeing even some marriages loosing the art of connecting as a result.
This has truly become a lost art in society in general. We have become too busy being busy to invest in a true relationship.
We know the Bible tells us to gather together and build each other up…
“And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:24-25 NKJV
I love when we can use our life experiences to build upon the “who we are in Christ.” Don’t you?
This past weekend we were challenged by some house guests, Christians, that hurt my heart.
You see I come from a background of abuse (verbal, physical) and I saw in them things that triggered memories that were not so pleasant. I was okay during this exposure, however my heart broke for them. My spirit was troubled for them. And my heart was reminded how powerful our behaviors, words and actions can impact others.
Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
You see this weekend the couple disrespected each other openly in public. As he belittled her in the middle of the restaurant she became defensive and responded back. Then it turned into being annoyed with anything in the restaurant from the cheese on the meal to an autistic child making noises.
Others heard and witnessed their actions and words… 😥
This was on their last night here, so I had heard enough and gently stepped in to silence both. Awkward!
I did learn a valuable lesson this weekend…one of how I NEVER want my marriage to reflect!
Our example is IMPORTANT!
We never know who we might be impacting by our words and actions. If we are to call our selves Christians we need to be a Christian 24/7 not just in public to impress folks how righteous we think we are.
Ladies we should never talk negatively about our husbands in public, that creates an image of them that may not be true. We need to be praying for our men, supporting them and lifting them up. You see girls if we “act” like we are taught in the bible it will benefit our entire home and our own life!
“A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.”
“He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.”
“Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.”
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”
Ladies, how we act, speak and respond will impact those around us. Will they see Jesus in you OR the world in you?
What example are you putting out there in your world today? One of Jesus OR one of the world?
You are called to be light and salt in this world…are you?
Our example is important.
